Academic Senate


RIT Croatia's Academic Senate is a body that facilitates faculty participation in the shared governance system. The role of the Academic Senate is to propose and approve new academic policies and procedures, as well as changes to existing policies and procedures. All full-time faculty and long-term adjuncts are members of the Academic Senate. Besides faculty, 15% of Academic Senate members consists of student representatives. All Academic Senate members take active role in Academic Senate committees. Academic Senate has five permanent committees.

Responsibilities of Academic Senate Standing Committees


1.Effective Teaching Committee

 The Effective Teaching Committee shall continually evaluate classroom pedagogy and mechanisms used in the course evaluation process; survey the current inventory in classrooms and make recommendations, where necessary, as to how the classroom environment can be improved with respect to creativity, technology, and innovation.

2.Research and Scholarship Committee
The Research and Scholarship Committee shall be responsible for policy recommendations concerning the allocation of funds to support faculty professional development and scholarship; shall produce the annual research/scholarship report as required by the national accreditation/reaccreditation processes; and will review all research proposals for compliance with national and RIT ethical standards for research with human participants (IRB committee).

3.Faculty Affairs Committee

The Faculty Affairs Committee shall be responsible for policy recommendations concerning faculty professional conduct and grievance processes; compensation and workloads; shall review all policies and procedures concerning the extended part-time and adjunct faculty of the College; and shall keep abreast of changes to the national tenure and promotion policies as well as the Act on Science and Higher Education.

4.Student Affairs Committee

The Student Affairs Committee will develop a set of recommendations to the Senate in order to provide more clarity as to expectations for student academic conduct, collegiality, and civility. The Student Affairs Committee will also make recommendations for the work of Student Council and activities to improve student life.

5.Academic Policy Committee

The Academic Policy Committee shall be the academic policy committee of the Senate. The Committee shall serve as liaison with appropriate administrative bodies and stakeholder groups at RIT Croatia and RIT main campus in order to ensure that key academic policies and procedures are aligned and in effect.

Academic Policy Committee will review, develop, and propose changes to existing academic policies and procedures at RIT Croatia with respect to the needs of key RIT Croatia stakeholder groups and requirements of accreditation institutions. Working in coordination with key stakeholder groups, it will propose new academic policies and procedures in order to increase the quality of academic activities at RIT Croatia.


6.Curriculum Committee

The Curriculum Committee shall study curricular proposals from an RIT Croatia perspective, maintain appropriate inter-college relationships with regards to curriculum, assure that existing undergraduate and graduate curricula are periodically reviewed, and make proposals to the Academic Senate for curriculum approval or discontinuance.
