Regardless of the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic posed on event organization, RIT Croatia students found a way to organize yet another successful annual charity auction with the purpose of helping those in need.
This year, the students organized a charity auction in an online environment by using the AirAuctioneer platform, where donated items were exhibited during the 5-day silent auction, and students, faculty and alumni of RIT Croatia bided for the items. More than 25,000 HRK were raised during the silent auction and during the live bidding and raffle at the final Zoom event. The funds are intended for the association Mladi protiv gladi from Vinkovci, Croatia.
„Given the limits caused by COVID19 pandemics, we have decided to go online with this event again, and we did your best to make it a successful one. Students from Dubrovnik and Zagreb campuses joined forces to once again show a big heart, but also to show exceptional organizational skills! We have hoped to raise substantial funds for this cause, but more than anything, we have hoped to raise awareness among people about the fact that there are many individuals who fight for their bare existence nowadays, and often times, those individuals cannot event get the basic living supplies", said Džejla Šuman, President of RIT Croatia Student Government, who also added: „ We especially give thanks to all who donated items for this year's auction and thus supported this noteworthy event. We are also thankful to all members of RIT Croatia community who took part at the bidding and thus enabled us to raise more than 25,000 HRK for Mladi protiv gladi association!"
The humanitarian auction is one of the extracurricular activities of RIT Croatia that started more than 20 years ago. It is organized by students every year and always meets with a very large response from the whole community. In order to give their contribution to the communities in which they study and live, students and employees of RIT Croatia donate various items for which they later compete at the auction. With great fun and atmosphere, the items are sold during the auction for amounts significantly greater than their market value. It is important to mention that items are also donated by organizations and companies with which RIT Croatia cooperates, as well as its alumni.
